LA ILAHA ILLALLAH

"When distress strikes and calamities come one after another, then say: La ilaha illallah."

Correct meaning of the declaration of faith in Islaam La ilaah illah Allaah (There is no god worthy of worship except Allaah). Presented by Dr Saleh As-Saleh Raheemahulah

Laa ilaaha illa Allaah

The first pillar is the Testimony of Tawheed -- the Shahaadah. The testimony of Laa ilaaha illa Allaah, Muhammadan Rasul Allaah which means that there is no god worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammed is Allaah's Slave and Messenger.

The meaning of Laa ilaaha illah Allaah is to believe in the firm attestation that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allaah and abiding by that and acting accordingly. Worshipping Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala and staying away from associating partners with Him in worship. This is the real meaning of La ilaaha illah. Allaah asserted to his Prophet pbuh the importance of knowing the meaning of la ilaaha illah lah when He said:

So know (O Muhammad ) that Laa ilaaha illa Allaah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and ask forgiveness for your sin. Surah Muhammed (47:19)

This means that none deserves to be worshipped except Allaah the true God. And therefore seek him for forgiveness. The pillars of laa ilaaha illa Allaah have 2 pillars. First, a negation and second an affirmation. The negation is when we say laa ilaaha- there is no god. This negates the ascription of any partner to Allaah in any shape or form and rejecting disbelief in anything worshipped or to the exclusion of Allaah. After the negation comes the affirmation -- illah Allaah meaning except Allaah. This affirms that none deserves to be worshipped except Allaah. The meaning of this came in the book of Allaah:

Whoever disbelieves in Taaghuut and believes in Allaah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allaah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. Surah al-Baqarah (2:256)
This is the meaning of laa ilaaha illa Allaah.
